Prior to his birth, his father was a soldier to one of the most powerful nations in Terra; Galbadia. In one of his battles, Laguna fell off a cliff and was rescued by Raine. For 6 months he laid in bed wounded. To repay the kind woman who nursed him back to health, he vowed to protect the small town on Winhill. Raine had a small 4 year old orphan child named Ellone, Laguna and Ellone were inseparable. Until Galabadia's rival nation Esthar came and kiddnapped Ellone because of her "unsual" powers to send someone's concience to the past. After this, Laguna left Raine and set out to rescue Ellone. However, Raine was pregnate without Laguna knowing. Raine then died in childbirth, giving birth to a small male child named Squall.
After Squall's birth, he was sent to an Orphanage until the age of 9 where he was transefered to Balamb Garden runned by Headmaster Cid. Garden was a facility where they train young children to become elite mercenaries SeeD. SeeD were elite forces whose goal was to defeat the Sorcerress. The whole ordeal scarred Squall, he had lost his parents, and his "Sis" dissapeared one day in the Orphanage. He grew up alone and the entire Garden facility considered him a "Lone wolf".
Squall also had a life-long rival named Seifer. One day during training, Seifer and Squall both gave each other scars on the forehead. Thus marking their rivalry. Later that day, Squall, SeeD intrusctor Quistis Trepe, a classmate named Zell Dincht, and Seifer left for the SeeD exam.
Quistis: " Your team mate is Zell Dincht, quite the lively fellow."
Squall: "Lively? He's just loud."
During that exam, Squall briefly met a girl named Selphie.
After the exam was done, Squall, ell, and Selphie were now official SeeDs. Seifer however did not pass. That night, the new SeeDs had a party. Squall was standing in the corner watching everyone have fun when suddenly this girl in a white dress approached.
Girl: " You're the most good looking guy here, want to dance?"
Squall: "...."
Girl: " Ohh, you'll only dance with people you like right? Ok then...You're-going-to-like-me!"
Squall: "...I cant dance."
After the dance was done, the girl dissapeared from Squall's sight. Days after, Squall, Zell and Selphie were sent on their first mission. It was to help the "Forest Owls" liberate the prospering town of Timber. Suprisingly, the leader of the organization was the same Girl that Squall met in the SeeD party.
Rinoa: "Im Rinoa, nice to meet you! ^_^"
Rinoa's lively and cheery attitude kept Squall puzzled. But they were in dissagreement most of the time.
Rinoa: "Wait, are you sure you want to do this?"
Squall : *thinking* " What is she talking about?"
Zell: "We're SeeDs, if you tell us to go, we go. Even if it is to a losing battle."
Rinoa: " How sad...it must be easy to live a life where you do as you're told."
Squall: " We're under your contract, we do as you're told. The responsibilty is yours, not sure you can handle it though...."
Rinoa: "WHAT!?, What do you mean by that!?"
Squall: "...How serious are you? Really? You plop down on the floor and discuss a stratefy. I wouldnt be surprised if you got us killed."
Zell: " hey Squall...you're being too harsh..."
Rinoa: "...We are serious...so serious it hurts."
However, everything didnt go according to plan. The President of Galbadia made a broadcast in Timber and introduce Galabadia's new leader called Edea. Suddenly, Seifer pops out of nowhere and takes the president hostage. Quistis then showed up and tried to stop Seifer.
Quistis: "Squall are you there!?, get over here now! You HAVE permission!"
When Squall and company arrived to the Timber TV station, they saw Seifer holding the president hostage.
Zell: "...YOU FREAKING IDIOT!, Hey instructor, lets drag this guy back to the Garden so that he'll recieve his punishment!"
Squall: " Shut up! NO!"
Zell: "...oops"
President: " Oh, so you're with Garden eh? Should anything happen to me, the entire army will destroy your precious Garden"
Seifer:" Nice going chicken wuss!"
Zell: "...."
Seifer then backed away and left the room. He then encountered Sorceress Edea. The sorceress put him in a mind trance and they both dissaperaed before Squall's eyes.
Squall and the whole gang (Zell, Selphie, Rinoa, and Quistis) reported to Galbadia garden. Headmaster Martin then gave the SeeDs a mission to assasinate the Socceress when she has her parade. He also revealed that Edea and headmaster Cid were married. For the assassination, they needed a sniper, they were introduced to Irvine. Now the party was full. Soon after, they put their mission under way. At times, Squall and 2 other party members fall into a sleeping trance where Squall is inside Laguna's mind. This puzzled him alot, but had no time to figure out what was going on because of the mission. Squall, Rinoa and Irvine were on top of a tower waiting for Edea to pass by so that they could shoot her. When she came out, they discovered that Seifer was also there.
Squall:" Seifer..so he's alive..."
Rinoa confessed that she and Seifer were a couple a year ago. Irvine then fired a shot, however, Edea put a barrier and the shot was deflected. Squall then jumped of the tower and charged head on to the sorceress. He then encoutered Seifer and defeated him. Squall was now joined by Rinoa and Irvine and they fought againts Edea. However, the fell easily. When everyone woke up, they found themeselves in a prison. Squall found himself being tortured by Seifer. However, they somehow managed to escape from there. When the whole party where outside, they knew from Seifer that Edea had ordered a missile attack on Garden. So now they had to stop it. When they got Garden, Headmaster Cid ordered the party to go down to the basement and restore the Garden's functions. Turned out that these function allowed Garden to fly and thus avoid the missiles.
Squall and company then left for Trabia Garden. Trabia garden was hit by the missiles that Edea sent out. Also, this is where Selphie was from before being transferred to Balamb Garden. The party then went to the fields and started talking. Irvine then revealed something. It was that Irvine, Selphie, Quistis, Zell, and Squall grew up on the same orphanage. And the person who took care of them was none other than Sorceress Edea, their enemy. They called her Matron back then. Soon after, Squall and others left for Galbadia garden where they encountered Edea and Seifer again.
Edea: "...So, you're the legendary SeeD who are destined to face me..."
Squall: "...what is she talking about? You're not our Matron."
They went into battle, and defeated both Edea and Seifer. When Edea was defeted, she let out this purple smoke from her body, Rinoa was caught in it and seemed to be in a trance. She walked to the wounded Seifer and whispered something in his ear. Then, Rinoa fell unconsious. Edea then woke up, and seemed to be better for some reason. She was back to normal.
After the ordeal, Rinoa was in a coma-like state. Edea confessed to be possessed by a soceress of the future called Ultimecia. Squall however, didnt care, since the only thing in his mind was to cure Rinoa. He went to the extent of walking to the Esthar nation to see if they could cure Rinoa. Squall was later joined by the rest of the party. Esthar then gave permission to Squall to go into space, so he went to a colony deep in space to see if they could cure Rinoa. In the colony, Squall then met Ellone. Ellone was his "sis" from the orphanage. He then found out that Ellone had been sending Squall's spirit back the past into Laguna's body. The whole reason for this is so that the past would change, so that Laguna would not leave Raine and that they would stay together. However, Ellone found out that was impossible. Later on, Rinoa sudendly broke out of her capsule and began attacking everyone. She then headed to the control room and released one of the seals that contained Sorcerress Adel; Esthar's former ruler. She was a ruthless ruler until someone managed to capture her. Rinoa then put on a space suit and went to Adel's tomb herself and released the last seal. Adel's tomb then fell to the earth and into a facility called Lunatic Pandora. Squall and Ellone had to escape, however Squall begged Ellone to send him back to Rinoa's past so that she would never fall into a coma. He then found out that Rinoa was being possessed by Ultimecia. Squall then jumped out of the escape pod and went to Rinoa. Both of them were now hovering in space. And then, they found a ship called Ragnarok. They both piloted the ship down to Terra. They were reunited by the entire party who had been waiting for them. After that, Squall had a meeting with the president of Esthar. He was none other than Laguna. Laguna then explained how he was the one who imprisoned Adel. Also, Laguna explained that Ultimecia's objective was to compress time. Time compression is when past, present, and future exists as one time. So, Squall and company ventured into Lunatic Pandora and encoutered Seifer one last time. After Seifer's defeat, he grabs Rinoa and takes her to Adel. Adel then merges with Rinoa and Fights againts Squall and everyone else.
Selphie: "Gotta save Rinoa!"
Squall: " Just go for Adel!"
With a swift strike of his gunblade, Squall defeats Adel. Ellone then comes in and sends Adel's and Ultimecia's concience to the past. Now Ultimecia ot what she wanted; she was in the past and started to compress time. Squall and the party then found themselves in front on Ultimecia's castle. They had one goal in mind, defeat Ultimecia. The fought againts her monsters and finally reached her.
Ultimecia:"...SeeD...SeeD...SeeD, SeeD, SeeD!, Kurse you SeeDs, fighting across time, you disgust me. The world was on the brink of Time-kompression. Fools! Your krusade ends here!"
And so, Ultimecia transfored into a God-like creature and absorbs existence. Leaving Squall and the party fighting her. Squall then jumps and stabs his gunblade into her heart. Ulitmecia then let out a huge light and explodes. Squall then found himselg in a dark place. Alone, then he fall unconsious. Rinoa shows up and holds Squall and they sundendly find themeselves in the orphanage. They were now back home. Seifer was never seen again however.
