A Bad Start

[L]

A motorcycle suddenly appeared out of nowhere from ten feet up towards the sky. Two Hundred men in soldier uniforms watched in awe at such a display. They were soldiers, and they were marching for their mission. They were going to battle, but this was an unexpected occurence. The Commander of the small army was Brigadier General Basque Grand, The Iron Blood Alchemist. The Motorcycle landed on a few soldiers, killing them instantly. Then reacting instantly, Basque Grand shouted, "Who the hell are you!?! You are hereby arrested for killing military personnel! You hear me?" He yelled at the man riding the motorcycle with a gun pointed at L's face.

L grinned and replied, "Yeah." He stopped the bike which swirved as it stopped and got off from it. L wore a sleeveless, long, black trenchcoat with a hood. He wore black gloves and his eyes were glowing red. L had spiky silver hair and black shades covered the bottom half of his pupils. General Grand started walking towards him, but instantly L took out his handgun with his left hand and aimed it at Grand. Basque Grand looked in shock. There was a loud bang, and the general toppled over the ground dead with blood oozing from his forehead. Making the grassy plain stained with blood.

The soldiers were still in shock with the death of their general and one took a picture of L. Finally, the troops raised their rifles and aimed it at L. The assassin already had his scythe gun out and he laughed in joy as they aimed their weapons at him. Then in the blink of the eye, a few soldiers were already cut in pieces. In panic, soldiers fired. Killing their fellow men as well. One communications expert was speaking frantically on the phone. L walked towards him and whispered in the man's name, "I'm L." The soldier told the person on the other line L's name, but was soon killed by L himself.

Within the few minutes, their were dead bodies scattered oozing blood from their corpse. L grimaced at the sight, "This sucks. What a bad start for this new area. Where in the hell am I anyway?" He didn't answer and walked towards his motorcycle. It was unscratched which was good for L. He revved up the engine and went towards the nearest town.

L's motocycle passed through a sign but he didn't see it. The sign read: Resembool. He went down a dirt path and passed through a burned house but he didn't make notice of it. He stopped the motorcyle in front of a house where there was a blonde haired woman at the window looking outside. L yelled out to her, "HEY! IS THERE AN INN IN THIS TOWN!?!" As he waited for a reply he noticed a sign near the house, it read "Rockbell Automail".

In Central, bounty papers were being issued out. It said Wanted: Dead or Alive. With 100,000,000 below it. Then there was a picture of L grinning slyly at to show what he looks like. It looks as though L was wanted in Amestris. This isn't very good for him at all. And to get the crystal while he was at it...this sure complicated things.

"Okay, Granny Pinako, watch this!", Edward exclaims.

Moments before, old Pinako Rockbell had accidentally broken her radio. So, being the "good samaritan" he was, Edward Elric, the Fullmetal Alchemist, gathers the broken pieces of the radio together. He then claps his hands together to generate an alchemic surge, instantly repairing the radio. "Good as new!"

Impressed, Pinako picks up her newly fixed radio and teases, "Well, Edward, I have to say. Even you have things you're useful for. Hehehe..."

"Ignoring that...", Edward says, grinding his teeth.

Suddenly, a voice from outside the house shouts, "HEY! IS THERE AN INN IN THIS TOWN!?!"

Edward walks outside to "introduce" the platinum-haired biker. "What's all the ruckus out here? ...Hmm? Who're you? Are you with the military?"

[L]

L was ticked that he was interrupted by some half-pint shorty. His eyes showed it when L took off his sunglasses and put it in his shirt pocket. He glared at Edward then looked back at the window to see that the girl was gone. He assumed she was going down the stairs. "I'm L. And I'm not part of the military. Quite the opposite really. And are you that beautiful girl's little brother? Because you look short enough to be." L grinned slyly and then chuckled at his own joke as he layed down on his bike. "So half-pint, what's the name of this peaceful town anyway. And do you know where the inn is? I need a place to stay." L said to Edward, having no ill-will when he insulted his height.

"HALF-PINT!?!? DID YOU JUST CALL ME A HALF-PINT!?!?!?", Edward fumes at the mystery biker. "And no, Winry isn't my sister! She's my friend! But I hardly think that's any of your business! Now I strongly suggest you move on, "whitey", 'cuz you're starting to piss me off!!"

Winry walks outside to calm Edward down. "Settle down, Edward. There's no need to make enemies with EVERYONE you see!"

"Grrrr..."

"I'm sorry for my friend's rudeness. I'm Winry, and this is Resembool." Just then, Winry recoils a bit, noticing that the man's motorcycle's wheels were drenched in blood.

[L]

"Whitey..." L wondered then looked at the mirror of his bike. "Oh my hair, if you ask me. I look great with this hair no? Hahahaha." He laughed then heard the apology from Winry. He turned around to see Winry and he smiled as he walked towards her. "So you're the beautiful girl I saw up at the window. How do you do. I'm L, I'm quite new around the place. I'm quite sorry for calling your friend here short. I didn't mean any ill-will." L said politely then kneeled down. He took her hand and kissed it, "So beautiful, you live here right? Do you know a good place to stay?" L flirted with he, no longer noticing the short alchemist next to her.

"Oh..." Winry's face turns a faint shade of red in response to L's politeness. "W-Well... There aren't any inns here in Resembool, but you're welcome to stay with us for the night...", she says flustered.

"WINRY!!! Are you nuts!? Just look at this guy!! He's so shady, he makes the nighttime look like the sunrise!! And just look at his bike!! His wheels are covered in blood!! We can't trust him!!"

"Well...", Winry says, unsure of herself.

[L]

"Blood?" L fakely questioned and turned towards his bike, "Oh that...I was traveling and I ran over a rabbit...it wasn't pretty. Then I ran over this other animal......LOOK THEY JUST APPEARED OUT OF NOWHERE!" L exclaimed, lying through his teeth. In actuality, he had killed military soldiers that were in his way. He was in a bad mood at that time. "Hmm..invite me to stay? That's great. I don't have alot of money with me. Since after all, they're probably a different currency then what you use. See." He took out his Ardew money, "I'm not sure if it's acceptable." He smiled innocently. Winry, still unsure, guided him inside. L took a seat inside the couch and smiled at her, "So. What is automail? Are you a mechanic? If you are, I'm one too. I'm an engineer. I invent stuff. Like this scythe gun." He said as he took the Scythe Gun and pointed it at Winry to show it off. If Edward had walked in at that time, he would probably think that L is about to shoot and hurt the female mechanic.

"Hmm..." Edward walks up to the motorcycle and kneels down. He runs his finger across the blood stain on the frontal wheel and gets a feel for it. "Tch! Rabbit blood, my ass! This is human blood!"

Edward, exhausted from arguing, walks inside the house and notices L pointing a gun at Winry. Without hesitation, Edward claps his hands together and slams them down, sending an alchemic surge through the floor. A thin wooden pillar springs up from under L's hand, knocking the gun out of his hand. As L looks to where his gun landed, Edward runs up and grabs him by his collar. "I knew you couldn't be trusted!!!"

[L]

"What the hell?" L asked himself as Edward grabbed him by the collar. Since his hand was free, he raised his right hand and then jabbed a pressure point in Ed's neck, making his arms feel like jello. Then with Edward not being able to hold him, L grabbed Edward which was surprisingly easy and made him lie down on the couch. L grinned smugly at Edward at his defeat, "Any idea what was that for?"

Winry had witnessed this and glared angrily at Edward, "EDWARD WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" She shouted at him. Then picking up L's scythe gun and examined it, her eyes went wide and sparkled. "L was only showing me one of his inventions. The Scythe Gun. Which is very nice by the way. Anyway, Edward what possessed you to attack." She glared at Edward and crossed her arms after she handed L his weapon back which L strapped to his back.

"Well, how was I s'posed to know!?!? He could've been planning to rob you for all I know!!!"

Edward lifts himself up off the couch and glares at L. "Okay, fine... So you're an inventor. That doesn't mean I trust you! That story you gave us about running over a rabbit? Complete and utter bull! That's human blood on your bike, I'm sure of it! I don't know what your story is, and I probably don't even want to know! You may be able to fool Winry, but you can't fool me!"

Edward uses his alchemy to return the floorboards to their original state.

"I'm keeping my eye on you, 'whitey'.", Edward warns L.

[L]

L sighed and sat down on the couch. His right hand rubbing his temple, just his luck. Some short but yet strong alchemist is his enemy now too. This was not his day. Winry glanced at L, questioning who he really was and wondering if they would be safe with him here. "Don't worry..Ed's here. He can take care of him if he does anything." She thought in her mind before going to another room. Now it was just L and Edward in the same room. Then suddenly the radio in the room was turned on. It was an emergency announcement issued by the government.

"This is a public announcement. Just a few hours ago. Military personnel had discovered the corpses of over 200 Military soldiers and Brigadier General Basque Grand who was shot in the head. Before communications rang out, we have identified who killed them all. A man named L. He had silver white hair and looks young. He is worth 100,000,000. If anyone has any information on his whereabouts, please contact the military at once."

Edward's eyes open widely upon hearing the announcement. "...L? ...200 soldiers? ...100 million!?" Edward stands up and turns towards L. "Heh... I knew from the start that you were trouble. I guess I was right to be suspicious."

Edward then takes out his State Alchemist pocketwatch and shows it to L. "L, by the power vested in me by the military and my authority as a State Alchemist, I hereby place you under arrest!"

[L]

"Guess I've been found out. Before you try to arrest me. Think this. What reason would I have for killing the man other than self defense? And if everybody knew how the military was in this realm, who would dare try to kill a military official? Why would someone suddenly turn up to kill him? And why was it me? Think. Why would it be me? I have no intention of killing anyone important here. I'm only here for this crystal see. It's a powerful crystal that keeps your world alive. However, taking that crystal comes at a price. I have to get it alright?" L explained to Edward as he stood up.

"Anyway. Are you sure you want to attack me? You're no match for me as of right now. You're just a kid. A shorty no doubt. Plus, who knows who's going to be in the crossfire. That yellow-haired beauty might come in and get shot by my bullet as we fight? Do you want to take that risk." Just then, Winry came into the room. Worried for Edward's safety after hearing the news report. She looked in shock then turned to run, but L was fast and was soon in front of her. L grabbed her gently in the waist while holding his scythe gun in his right hand. Winry struggled but L had a good grip on her, "Edward. I'm not your enemy. And neither she is. Now sit back down and think about what I said." L yelled then gently threw Winry towards Edward, but making sure she doesn't get hurt. He was now in a defensive position, waiting for whatever Edward is going to do.

"Winry!" Ignoring the fact that L had called him short, Edward catches Winry, who had suddenly fallen unconscious, before any harm could come to her. He then gently sets her down on the couch. He then turns back towards L. "Only a coward would use an innocent girl as a shield! And what do you mean 'crystal'? ...Do you mean the Philosopher Stone? And another thing: What do you mean by 'this realm'? Why don't you start making some sense before I turn you in to the Fuhrer!?"

[L]

L hurt when he was called a coward but that wasn't important right now, "I don't know what you call it. But yeah, the Philosopher Stone! And I'm not from here. I'm from another realm. Haven't you noticed how some people have been turned to stone by a mysterious white powder? Haven't you wondered where did that come from? Only the strong-will survives the effects of that powder. The answer lies in The End of Time where I've been. There, a mysterious entity told me and some others about a crystal that is found in each realm. And guess what, they're after yours too. It is said that the crystal is the life of that realm, but who knows! All I know is I need to have it. Getting arrested and thrown in jail is something I don't want to do." L explained to Edward. Giving him a moment to suck all this in.

"Another realm? White powder? The End of Time? You're STILL not making any sense!!!" Then something struck Edward. A short while ago, he had been investigating a phenomenon in which villagers were struck by a disease where the body would suddenly fossilize. Perhaps that was linked to the white power L was speaking of. But did L truly come from another plane of existence? And what was this "End of Time" he was talking about? So many questions, and Edward was unsure that any of them would be answered. "I... I need to sit down.", Edward says, slightly dazed by L's peculiar speech.

[L]

"Take the time. I could hardly believe it myself at first." L said smirking at Edward. He leaned against the wall, his gun scythe still in hand. "The End of Time is not really the end of time. It's just the name of the realm. There are many other realms that you probably don't know about that I do know of. There were these portals that lead to other realms at The End of Time. I happen to choose the portal that goes to here. Hehe." He looked at Edward then to the unconcious Winry, "You know. She's kind of cute. You sure you aren't more than friends. She's probably good in bed too...whoops. That's for adults only, not for the eyes of children like you." He joked around.

Then suddenly, a loud explosion was heard. Wood was splintered and there was a huge hole at the wall. Outside was an army of military soldiers with a captain in the front. They were around L's motorcycle which probably gave off that L was here. The leader of that army was serious and yelled, "FUGITIVE L! THE REAPING DESPERADO. COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS UP OR I'LL BE FORCED TO FIRE!" L grimaced and silently said 'Shit' and looked at Edward and Winry. "This is bad. "There a backdoor around here?"

"Crap... This can't be good. C'mon, this way!"

Edward leads L to the back exit of the house and they run onto the patio. "Okay, buddy. You still have some explaining to do, so I guess we're stuck together for now. Most likely, the military has all of the Resembool borders blockaded... Damn. What now?"

[L]

To their surprise their was a military behind the house too. "Tch...they were smart enough to do this too." L aimed his scythe gun at them as well, "I don't want trouble." Then with his left hand, looked through the insides of his trench coat. Then he took out something round, then before the soldiers had a chance to react, L threw down the round object which created a smokescreen. The soldiers started firing randomly. However, L was ducking through and started slicing the soldiers killing them. Fortunately, Winry and Granny Pinako was safe inside without any harm. Then as the smoke cleared, L was seen standing among many cut-up soldiers. All dead. "Hurry up Edward so we can get out of he-" L was then shot and he soon recoiled backward while still standing. He fell back against the tree as the man who shot him came closer. The man was the captain and he kicked L to the ground and started to handcuff him. "You are hereby arrested for manslaughter." However, L broke free from the man's grasp and took out his handgun and fired the man in the head. The soldiers from the front started to come towards the back, some were near Edward. They saw their dead leader and started firing at L. L jumped and went behind a tree with his handgun in hand, his scythe gun on the floor.

"Tch! I'd hate to do this, but..." Edward claps his hands together and sends an alchemic surge through the ground. Pillars of dirt shoot up from underneath the standing soldiers, causing them to fall over. Edward then picks up one of the dead soldiers' pistols and transmutes it into his automail arm, creating a makeshift machinegun. Edward then proceeds to shoot the remaining soldiers with his machinegun arm until there weren't any left. "Sigh... Glad that's over... Although this'll probably cost me my pocketwatch.", Edward says with a chuckle.

[L]

"Haha. Something tells me you were never that part with the Military." L smiled as he clutched the arm he was shot at which was his left arm. He put his handgun in his holster and picked up his scythe gun. "Well. We're now fugitives..." L then aimed his scythe gun at Edward and fired, the bullet going through his chest. Then L cut off his right arm which to his surprise was mechanical. "Well...sorry bout that Edward, you and Winry been good to me. But I can't let you be a fugitive like me haha. Well I'm off to find the crystal of your realm." He then ran towards the front and got on his motorcycle. "Say bye to Winry for me." With that he sped off, more soldiers coming soon to question on what happened.

"Gah!! You bastard...!!", Edward exclaims clenching his gun wound as L rides away on his bike. At that moment, Edward notices several military vehicles approaching. As they screech to a halt, Colonel Maes Hughes exits one of the vehicles and runs over to Edward's side. "Edward! Are you alright?"

"Yeah... I'll be fine..."

Hughes looks among the many soldier corpses, feeling sick to his stomach. "I take it the Reaping Desperado's been through here?"

"Yeah... He had me believing he was a good guy, but he's just a cold-blooded killer like Scar."

"Which way did he go, Edward?"

"He headed...towards the train station...!"

"Got it. Soldiers, move out--!"

"Wait, Hughes!! Take me with you!! I have a score to settle with L!!"

"You're in no condition to move, Ed. We need to get you some medical attention."

"Tch!" 'Sorry about this, Maes...', Edward thinks to himself. He swings his automail leg at Hughes' legs, causing hm to trip. Edward then jumps to his feet and grabs onto one of the vehicles heading towards the station.

"Ed, no!! Come back here!! ...Dammit..."

[L]

L stopped in front of the station, out of sight where anybody could see him. There were military guards near the entrance so he had to be careful. L clicked a button on the motorcycle which was then turned into a capsule. He put it back into his trench coat and then silently killed the guards with his Scythe Gun. Luckily no one saw. He walked in and saw a whole lot of soldiers. One saw him and alerted the others. Soon, there was a gun fight. Then L took out a grenade from his coat and threw it at the soldiers which killled all of them. "Tch...not much of a fight." The civilians looked in terror as L made his way towards the engine and threatened the engineer with his scythe gun to start it. The man didn't resist and soon started the engine, but it would take some time for the engine to warm up. L just hopes no one comes and ruins it.

The military vehicles arrive in front of the train station and Edward jumps off of the hood of one of the vehicles. Ignoring the fact that he was missing half an arm, Edward runs into the station and finds the train warming up. Most likely, L was on that train. "Tch! You can't escape from me now!"

"Edward, stop!!", Hughes shouts as he runs into the station out of breath.

"Stay out of this, Maes! This is between me and L!!"

"You and L!? What about the countless soldiers that L killed? Don't you think that, if they had the chance, they'd seek revenge against L too!? And besides, Edward, you're missing half an arm, and you're up against a ruthless murderer!! Do you really think you can face him in your condition!?"

"Grrrr..." Just then, the train begins to pull away from the station. "Dammit!" Edward runs towards the moving train and grabs onto the rear. "Sorry, Maes, but this is something I just have to do!!"

"Edward!!! ...Dammit, what's with that kid!?"

Edward climbs onto the train's roof and makes his way towards the engine car. At that moment, Ed notices that the train was approaching a tunnel. Thinking quickly, Edward jumps into the gap between two of the cars to avoid being thrown. "That was close..." Eventually, Edward reaches the engine car, but the door was locked. "Tch! You think a stupid padlock's gonna stop me!?", Edward scoffs, using his automail leg to kick the lock loose. "Okay, L! We finish this NOW!!", Edward exclaims, opening the door...

[L]

L grinned slyly as his face was shown looking at Edward, his scythe gun already aimed at Edward, "Boy you make loud footsteps." He glanced at the terrified engineer and then back at the brave alchemist, "What do you want? I gave you an alibi. I helped so you won't get arrested for assisting me. Now you come here to get me? Tch, I seriously don't know what you're up to. I'm after the crystal. I don't want you around that could drag me down. It's called the Philosopher's Stone right? In this world? You don't know the power it could do to this realm. So what a few lives are lost, at least it's not all the population." L said to him, his face looking serious now and calm. He then waited a reply from Edward.

"'So what if a few lives are lost'!? The ends doesn't justify the means, you twisted freak!! You think killing off a few people is okay, just as long as you get what you want?!? That's insanity!! You may think that's okay, but I don't! If you seriously plan on doing that just to get your hands on the Philosopher's Stone, then I'm gonna make sure you NEVER get your greedy little paws on it!!"

[L]

L started laughing, his scythe gun still pointed to Edward. "I'm an assassin. I killed thousands for the price of money, I no longer feel the guilt. And do you think I want it for myself? I'm trying to get it away from the real enemy. If they take the crystal, everyone in this world will die. Including Winry! Or any other loved one. You can either kill me now and wait for your demise. Or you can help me find the Philosopher Stone so your world wouldn't be destroyed. I admit, killing those military men were bad. But what else should I do? They were either kill me or I kill them. That Basque Grand fellow, he pointed a gun at my face after I accidently killed a few of his men as I got teleported here through a portal. Don't you understand what I mean!?!" L asked Edward desperately, "Then I did an act of kindness....I didn't want you to get involved. But now you got you mixed up in my affairs."

"Everyone in this world...will die?" Edward was well-aware of the amazing powers that the Philosopher's Stone held, but was its power truly that immense? "...Tell me, L. What do you plan on using the Philosopher's Stone for once you find it?" Edward felt that it was necessary to know what the stone would be used for so that L's goals would justify what he was doing.

[L]

"Keep it safe until the enemy who wants it is destroyed. That way, they won't take it and so this world would be safe. And what do you want it for. I have a feeling you want it. Is it for a selfish reason as well as the people that intend on using it?" L asked, his eyes furrowed into a glare. "It doesn't matter. I just need to do it now. And you're in the way at this moment."

[axel]

"It's true that the reasons I have for wanting to use the stone are a bit selfish... But I don't kill to get what I want.", Edward states adamantly. "And who's this 'enemy' you're talking about?", Edward asks, seeking more information.
